Southampton part ways with manager Claude Puel
Southampton part ways with manager Claudio Puel after just one season incharge.
The 55-year-old’s role had been a matter of speculation after a relatively poor league campaign saw the Saints finish with their lowest point tally in four years multiplied by a Europa League group stage exit.

Nonetheless, the club managed to finish 8th in the league under Puel and reach the EFL Cup final where they narrowly missed out on the title to Manchester United.
A statement on the club’s official site read:
“Southampton Football Club can today confirm that it has terminated the contract of Claude Puel with immediate effect.”
“Everyone at Southampton would like to express our thanks to Claude for his hard work and commitment this year. The highlight of the season was a memorable day at Wembley in the EFL Cup Final, a day our fans will always treasure. We wish Claude well for the future.”
Thomas Tuchel is the leading candidate to take over the job at St. Mary’s while other candidates include Alavés manager Mauricio Pellegrino and Jaap Stam.
