Collision with Otamendi fractures Jesus’ eye socket
Brazil and Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus has suffered a fractured eye socket after colliding with fellow Manchester City teammate Nicolas Otamendi in Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Argentina.
Jesus has been ruled out of Brazil’s friendly against Australia on Tuesday after tests in a Melbourne hospital found that he has suffered an orbit fractural to his eye socket.
The 20 year old Brazil international momentarily lost consciousness following the collision, which saw Otamendi leap over the top of Jesus in an aerial challenge and connect with a stray elbow. Jesus required on-pitch treatment from the medical staff before he was taken off on a stretcher in the dying minutes of the match as a precautionary measure.
Jesus was taken to hospital immediately after match as a precautionary measure and the Brazilian officials initially denied any reports of the Brazilian having a fracture, however, latest reports revealed that the young striker has fractured his eye socket. National team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and national team technical coordinator Edu Gaspar contacted the City officials today to update them on Jesus’ condition.
Jesus tweeed a message of reassurance today, reading simply :”Estou bem ( I am fine )”, along with the praying hands emoji.
Tite isn’t expected to call a replacement player and this means Diego Souza is likely to come in and lead the attack for the Selecaos against Australia.
