All India Football Federation has finally cleared the Indian football team to participate in the 12th edition of the SAFF Football Championship to be held in Bangladesh.

In a press-release today, AIFF said, “The Executive committee agreed to the proposal of the SAFF Committe to play the tournament in Bangladesh from May 1 to 12th.”

The tournament was previously scheduled to take place in December this year. But AIFF alarmed SAFF about their inability to take part in the tournament as the schedule collided with the matches in Indian club football. Then SAFF rescheduled the elite football tournament of South Asia to May, 2018.

India is the most successful nation of the tournament having lifted the trophy 7 times besides being runners-up thrice. They are also the Champions of the last edition of the tournament as they emerged victorious over Afghanistan in Thiruvananthpuram back in 2015 SAFF Cup Final.
