Shillong Lajong today has announced that Thangboi Singto will no more be the head coach of the club. The news came as almost as a shock as the parting ways between the two has taken place after a relation of almost 8 years.

Habamutlang Lyngdoh, the General Manager of Lajong said,

“Singto’s contract ended on May 31 and the club is yet to take any decision on his future in view of the uncertainty of Indian football top league.”

“We are yet to take a call on whether to renew the long term contract with Singto depending on the future of I-League in the country.”

This decision arrived mainly after the futile meeting yesterday at Kuala Lumpur, which resulted in nothing concrete. Although AFC assured that the history and legacy of the clubs(read East Bengal and Mohun Bagan) will be intact but there was no prominent stand on the other I-League clubs. Larsing Ming left the meeting midway according to sources.

Shillong Lajong was in a way forced to take the decision after failing to find any light ahead on whether they will feature in the top league of India.

Singto said,

“I am most thankful to PD Sawian and Larsing Ming Sawyan who entrusted me with the top job to take the club forward since 2012.”

Singto joined Lajong as the Assistant Coach back in 2009. But on January 2013 he was promoted to the role of Interim Head Coach after the removal of Desmund Bulpin and from the next season he became permanent. Under him, Lajong became a prominent name in I-League and Indian football. His biggest achievement will be keeping their top flight status intact defying all financial odds.

While being queried on his future Singto said,

“Although there were offers coming in from leading clubs in the country, I am yet to decide at the moment.”
