FC Pune City U19 beat AIFF colts to book berth in the IFA Shield Final
FC Pune City juniors emerge victorious in a closely contested IFA Shield semifinal encounter today at Kolkata. The Pune lads defeated AIFF U19 team 5-6 on penalties.
The match started on an even note with both teams having their share of chances. But the prominence of the AIFF U19 was evident as they slowly established their strong hold in the match. On the 12th minute, AIFF colts took the lead by a penalty scored by Bhuttia.
The half ended 1-0 in favour of AIFF U19. The second half saw exhibition of some rash performances as both the teams got seemingly tired. But on the 75th minute the franchise team from Pune levelled the scores.
On the very next minute, Pune got a golden opportunity to seal the tie as they were rewarded a penalty but the valiant effort by AIFF custodian Aditya Patra saw Pune being denied the glory as the regulation time ended 1-1.
In the penalties both sides kept their nerves under control as both of them scored every goal in the shootout and the match went into sudden death.
In the 7th round of the shootout, the effort of Ajin of AIFF U19 got saved by the Pune goalie and Pune scored to seal the deal and reach the finals of this historical tournament.
FC Pune City U19 will meet Mohun Bagan U19 in the grand finale who beat Pathachakra U19 in the other semi-final yesterday.
