Today, the eyes of the whole Indian football fraternity will be in Kuala Lumpur, on the mega meeting on the fate of ISL, I-League and the concerned clubs. But in the meantime, the ISL franchises are not sitting idle and are keeping talks with the players in their wishlist on.

The Kolkata franchise of ISL according to sources is in connection with Seydou Keita, the two time UEFA Champions League winner with the Blaugarana.

Keita is currently playing for Doha based club El-Jaish Sports Club in the Qatari League. He joined the Doha outfit on 19th August last year and has a contract with them untill 30th June this year. As a consequence, he will become a free agent from July and the Kolkata officials are trying to take advantage of that state to land him in the ‘City of Joy’.

The Mali international who played over 100 matches for his nation also has French nationality and is a graduate of the Marseille academy. He had stints with clubs in Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie A-three of the top 5 leagues in Europe and played there with merit.

But the 37 year old Central-defensive midfielder is mostly remembered for his four years at Catalunya, where he represented Barca almost 150 times in the most glorious era of their history winning several accolades.

But the emergence of highly technical Sergio Busquets, and the eternal presence of club legend Xavi Hernandez saw his time at the first team cut short and he had to leave the Catalans for more matchtime. Since then he represented Roma, Valencia and also played in the Chinese Super League before landing at Qatar ultimately.

Keita has played 11 games this season including the ACL qualifier against Bunyodkor and scored 3 goals besides providing 2 assists for El-Jaish.

Sources claim that the biodata of the 37 year old has arrived at Kolkata and the officials of the Kolkata franchise are interested in pursuing conversation with him.

After the parting ways with Atletico de Madrid, the local officials of the franchise will have to do the hard work this time of recruiting the foreigners and it seems like the work has already begun.
