Freiburg attacking midfielder, Maximilian Philipp joins Borussia Dortmund
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has become BVB’s fourth signing of the summer, moving for a reported €20 million to Peter Bosz’s side.
Dortmund announced the signing of Philipp from Freiburg as the youngster has agreed on a 5-year contract for Peter Bosz’s side.
He was one of the sparks in Freiburg’s Bundesliga campaign last season. The 23-year old attacking midfielder made 25 appearances for the club helping them finish 7th in Bundesliga by scoring 9 goals and 2 assists.
He was delighted with the move as he spoke to the club website,”BVB are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is an honour for me to be able to play here,”
He also added,
“I think that at 23 I am mature and old enough to be able to take this step. Now I want to develop further at Dortmund.”
It has been a busy week for Dortmund as they appointed Peter Bosz from Ajax to succeed Thomas Tuchel as their head coach on Tuesday.They already signed teenage defender Dan-Axel Zagadou from Paris Saint-Germain.
Philipp became the 4th signing of the summer for Dortmund as they already bought Mahmoud Dahoud and Omer Toprak from Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc added:
“We are delighted to have secured in Maximilian Philipp a player who was sought after at home and abroad. He has brilliant prospects.”
Philipp will represent Germany at the Under-21 Euros and then take a three-week break before joining up with his new team-mates at the Signal Iduna Park.
