South American countries stormed into semis

South American countries Venezuela and Uruguay booked their semi final spots in the ongoing 21st edition of FIFA U-20 World Cup. They will lock horns in the first semifinal game of the tournament on 8th June.

Venezuela claimed the semi final spot for the first time in the history of the competition beating United States U-20 for a score of 2-1 in extra time. Goals from Adalberto Penaranda and Nahuel Ferraresi helped the winneras to secure their spot in the semis, Meanwhille united states only goal was scored by Jeremy Ebobisse. All the goals were scored in the extra time.

On the other hand Uruguay U-20 defeated Portugal U-20 on penalties (5-4), following a 2-2 draw. Xande Silva and Diogo Goncalves netted the goals for Portuguese side while Santiago Bueno and Federico Valverde scored for the Uruguay side. As the match went on to penalties Uruguay goalkeeper made two saves and helped his side to secure semi final spot.

Both sides will meet each other on Thursday, in what will be an all South American semi final. In the other games of the tournament Italy will face African strong holds Zambia and Mexico will face England to book their semi final spots.
