Borussia Dortmund sign Dan-Axel Zagadou from Paris Saint-Germain

Borussia Dortmund have signed talented 18-year-old French defender Dan-Axel Zagadou from Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year-deal that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2022.

Zagadou has played at all the youth levels for France and currently represents and captains the France U-18 side. Standing at 6 ft, Zagadou possesses an excellent left foot that he uses to play the ball out from the back.

Manchester City were reportedly chasing him but Zagadou clearly expressed his views on joining Dortmund saying:

“I made the conscious decision to sign for BVB because they are a top club that repeatedly succeed in integrating young players into the first team and continue to develop them at the highest level,”

“I’m very excited aboutt my new team-mates, the impressive stadium, the famous fans and really hope to mature into an established professional footballer in Dortmund!”

Sporting Director Michael Zorc further added:

“Dan-Axel Zagadou will be a full member of our professional squad from July. We have conducted this transfer with the future in mind, are fully convinced of the player’s abilities and look forward to helping him to take the next steps of his footballing development as a BVB first-team player,”

Zagadou left PSG after his contract expired this summer and joins midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud who joined from Borussia Mönchengladbach and central defender Ömer Toprak from Bayer Leverkusen as the third major signing of the summer.
