After Maradona, Kolkata is ready to host another football legend during Durga-Puja
The ‘City of Joy’ is all set to host ‘The Prince of football’-Diego Maradona during Mahalaya. Now the former capital of the India is ready to welcome another footballing legend, from the same continent as Maradona’s.
According to sources, Uruguayan football legend Enzo Francescoli is scheduled to arrive at Kolkata during Durga-Puja, the biggest festival in this part of the land.
For Francescoli, this would not be his first visit to the city. He was a player of the Uruguay side which took part in the inaugural Nehru Cup in 1982 in Kolkata. Francescoli not only played, but impressed the local football fans and ultimately helped his country to lift the coveted trophy defeating China in the final.
Francescoli is widely considered as one of the greatest playmakers ever to come from Latin America. He won three Copa America titles for Uruguay and also was a Copa Libertadores triumphant for River Plate. ‘El Flaco’ featured in the ‘FIFA 100’ and also in the ‘100 Greatest footballers’ by World Soccer.
A travel agency officials were on a trip to South America when they met the Uruguayan legend and struck the deal of making him arrive at ‘The City of Joy’ for the second time.
After Diego, now Enzo Francescoli. Ahead of the U17 World Cup, Kolkata is all set to mould itself in some Latin flare during the festive season.
