Ahead of the Calcutta Football League, the club which among the ‘Three Giants’ of Kolkata football which has shown the least activity in the transfer market is Mohun Bagan. Amidst the spontaneity of Mohammedan’s purchases and East Bengal’s tactical moves, the Mariners have remained relatively silent in the transfer market.

But the news that can raise eyebrows of many of the Indian football followers is seemingly on the horizon. According to sources, Mohun Bagan officials are in talks with Nigerian goal machine Ranti Martins Soleye!

Ranti Martins, a man who needs no introduction in Indian football is currently a free agent and without a club since December last year after leaving Penang FA of Malaysia.

The Nigerian was a regular feature of the top scorers chart in Indian football during his decade long existence in this part of the world and Bagan is seemingly willing to capitalise on his poaching ability in the upcoming season.

The Green and Maroon has let Scottish striker Darryl Duffy and Brazillian defender Eduardo Ferreira leave. Katsumi Yusa and Sony Norde have also not given surety about their stay in the club as they are unwilling to make any move before getting to see the outcome of the mega meeting at Kuala Lumpur on 7th June.

Under these circumstances, the MB officials needed a proven entity in Indian football to bolster their side and there could not be anyone more proven than Ranti Martins. According to sources, Debasish Dutta, the Finance Secretary of the club had initial talks with the Nigerian ace and has got enough indications to pursue on it.

Although everything is still in the preliminary stage, but if the century-old club paves the way of Martins’ return to India then that would really be a big news in Indian football.
