Mohammedan Sporting signs their second foreigner ahead of CFL
Keeping the momentum of their activity in the transfer market on, Mohammedan Sporting has roped in their second foreigner ahead of the Calcutta Football League. Nigerian defender Richard Agwu Somtochokwu is the new signing of the Black and White brigade.
The 26 year old previously had stints with some of the most prominent names in Calcutta football’s top tier eg. Kalighat Milan Sangha, Bhowanipore, Southern Samity etc. He represented Mumbai based club Kenkre FC in the 2nd Division I-League also.
Talking to a leading news portal based in Kolkata, Richard said,
“I played in the 2nd Division I-League for Southern Samity and it has not been a great experience for me. At the very beginning we thought we would do well but in the later phase due to financial and other problems we could not concentrate properly.”
“But now I have signed for Mohammedan Sporting Club. They have a great team and I have studied about the history of the club and as a result I discussed with Belal Khan and ultimately decided to sign for the club.” added the 26 year old defender.
Club official Belal Khan also sounded optimistic as he made it clear that they will go all guns blazing to end East Bengal’s domination of Calcutta Football League. According to Khan, they are currently in for recruiting another foreigner ahead of the CFL after completing the signings of Dipanda Dicka and Richard Agwu.
Mohammedan coach Biswajit Bhattacharya said,”He was signed on my consent. He is indeed a good player. He is also a responsible player and he has also played brilliantly with Southern Samity.”
The General Secretary of the club Ghazal Uz-Zafar commented on the occasion of his unveiling,”Richard is known for his intimidating presence on the field. He will have an important role to play and has a lot to offer. I would like to welcome him to the Mohammedan Sporting Club family and wish him all the very best for the season ahead.”
The Black and White brigade are on their way of forming one of the most formidable sides this season already. Reportedly, they have struck deals with the likes of Shilton Paul, Kingshuk Debnath, Lalrindika Ralte, Prohlad Roy, Dipanda Dicka among others and also extended contract of Rana Gharami. And thus they are imposing a statement to the rest.
