Vincenzo Montella has signed a new one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2018-19 season. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2017-18 season.

The 42-year-old joined Milan at the beginning of last season taking over from Cristian Brocchi. Montella successfully led them to a sixth place finish that ensured that Milan qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Europa League, ending a three-year absence from European football.

In addition to that, Milan also won the Supercoppa Italiana last December defeating Juventus 4-3 on penalties, their first title since 2011.

After signing the contract, Montella expressed his delight in a video conference with Chief Executive Marco Fassone and Sporting Director Massimiliano Mirabelli that went live on Milan’s official Facebook page:

“I’m delighted to continue as Milan coach,I reaffirm my enthusiasm for this adventure and thank you for the faith shown in me.”

Fassone further stated:

“After a positive season managing a great group, the Club and Vincenzo Montella are ready to continue working together, renewing the contract of the Red and Black manager.”

The club also highlighted Montella’s influence on Milan’s form on their official website when they managed an impressive 39 points in the first half of the season
