Manchester United ready to sell Smalling
Manchester United are ready to listen to offers for England international Chris Smalling.
Smalling joined Manchester United from Fulham ahead of 2010-11 season. The 27-year-old centre-back soon became a prominent figure under Sir Alex Ferguson. He also played a pivotal role at the Red Devils under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal. But Smalling has fallen down the pecking order under current boss Jose Mourinho.
Smalling has been restricted to 35 appearances across all competitions this season with Mourinho preferring Daley Blind, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo ahead of him. Mourinho even publicly criticised Smalling twice earlier this season.
ESPN FC now reports that Manchester United are ready to sell Smalling this summer. Mourinho doesn’t see Smalling in his long-term plan and ready to move for other targets including Burnley’s Michael Keane and Benfica’s Victor Lindelof.
Although Smalling put up a decent performance in Europa League final yesterday, that won’t affect any major difference on his situation. Arsenal previously showed an interest in Smalling. West Ham and West Brom are the other two clubs vying for Smalling’s signature. Smalling has been a full England international since 2011. He has earned 30 caps for the Three Lions scoring once in the process.
