Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is set to be the subject of a huge bid from Manchester United.

Jan Oblak is regarded as one of the best goalies of recent times thanks to his incredible display for both Atletico Madrid and Slovenia national team. Last season he won the Ricardo Zamora trophy for La Liga’s best goalie considering the fact that he conceded a meagre 18 goals throughout the league campaign.

He continued his fine display this season too with a number of match-winning performances for the Rojiblancos both in the La Liga and the Champions League.

Rumours linking the 24-year-old with Manchester United have been circulating for a long time as the Red Devils are unsure about their current no. 1 David de Gea’s future. David de Gea is strongly in contention to become the new galactico signing of Real Madrid. Keeping that in mind, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has made the signing of Oblak an absolute priority. But Manchester United must break the bank to sign Oblak, who has a £84.8m release clause in his contract. If the deal goes through, Oblak will become the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the game.

Meanwhile, as per reports, current Chelsea no. 1, Thibaut Courtois is a backup option for Real Madrid should they fail in their pursuit of David de Gea. In that case, Chelsea will also look to bolster their goalkeeping area with Oblak firmly in their sight.

Oblak’s agent, Miha Mlakar has recently shed some light on the ongoing rumours related to his client.

“His future? It’s too soon [to discuss] because there are still league games to play, but it’s true that, like I’ve always said, there’s a lot of interest in the best goalkeeper in the world,” he told Goal Spain.

“Above all, there are two clubs that are really interested in Oblak for next season. One is certainly from the United Kingdom. Italy? Please, is this a serious question? In Italy, only Juventus are at the top level and they have Buffon, who’s now in the Champions League final.

If you ask me, he can play for a few more years without any problems.”

Oblak joined Atletico Madrid in 2014 from Benfica for a reported €16m to replace Chelsea-bound Thibaut Courtois. With the Rojiblancos he won the Supercopa de Espana in 2014. He was also the number one goalkeeper of the Atletico Madrid side that reached the final of the UEFA Champions League 2015-16 only to be beaten by the champions Real Madrid.
