Inter eyeing Saints’ star
Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk has won plaudits from the football pundits over the last couple of seasons by his solid performances at the back for the Saints. The Dutchman has emerged as one of the most prominent names this season in EPL and is topping the wishlist of many clubs.
The Groningen academy product has previously been linked with English giants eg. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea etc. He has not lacked suitors from outside the borders also. But the first serious suitors from outside of England for the defender is seemingly arriving in the form of FC Internazionale Milano.
The Nerazzurri owned by the Sunning group are determined to restructure their defence with new acquisitions and has already had talks with Pepe. Now they have set their eyes on the Saints star according to reports in Premium Sport.
The same mews agency reports that as Inter are determined to land Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at San Siro next season, this move of Van Dijk would probably help Ausillo & Co. to lure the Italian manager to come to Milan.
The 25 year old Virgil van Dijk joined Southampton from Scottish champions Celtics and has played over 60 games for them and did so with merit.
The move by Inter to go for the Dutch is seemingly intelligent especially keeping the status of their ageing defenders in consideration. But it would be very tough for the Nerazzurri to defy the challenges of the English outfits in the pursuit of signing the defender.
