Lyon’s comeback was denied by Dolberg’s goal, as the youngster guides the Dutch side to the Europa League final.

Lacazette’s brace goes in vain as Ajax narrowly went past Lyon with a 4-5 aggregate to progress to the final .

Ajax demolished Lyon at the Amsterdam Arena with a scoreline of 4-1. Their performance that day was very dominant. Lyon had a lot to prove and literally they had a mountain to climb at home.

Lyon knew what they have to do to proceed to the finals, so they started putting pressure on their opponents from the beginning and were rewarded for it as Lacazette’s brace right at the end of half time gave them a sense of hope and belief that they can make a comeback.

But Kasper Dolberg’s 27 minute strike saved Ajax and helped them proceed to the finals against Manchester United in Stockholm.

Lyon was dictating the game from the start but after managing the early part, Ajax had a lot of chances from then. But both Younes and Ziyech squandered chances to secure a crucial away goal.

But the visitors did not had to wait too long, as quick thinking from Onana freed up Younes in space who then passed it to Dolberg. The teenager was perfect with the timing of his run as he coolly lobes it over the onrushing Lopes.
But Lyon were handed a lifeline by an unnecessary tackle by De Ligt, as he brought down Lacazette inside the box. Lacazette was calm and composed, as he scored the equaliser from the spot right at the dying minutes of the 1st half.
The equaliser gave Lyon a sense of urgency to score more and just a minute later came the 2nd goal, when Lacazette steered Fekir’s low cross on the far post.

Inexperience in the Ajax defence was evident as they were again opened up but Diakhaby but he could not apply the finish that was required from a Valbuena free kick.

The Ajax defence was opening up time and again but Lyon were not able to capitalize on it. Fekir found himself in space and it was the golden opportunity to increase the lead. But the forward skewed it over from close range.

Ghezzal registered himself on the scoresheet in the 81st minute as his header went in with a bad deflection from Viergever. It was not at all a good day for Viergever as soon he received his marching orders after a late plunge on Rybus.

Lyon kept on believing and pushed for another goal, as Ajax was a man down and Lyon were putting pressure on them in the dying minutes of the match.

But all their efforts were in vain as Lacazette and Cornet had their chances but the Dutch side were firm in registering their names in the Europa League final this season.

Ajax has been impressive throughout the competition, their youth have stepped up whenever they required them. They have the belief that they can win the final against Manchester United in Stockholm on May 24th.
