How can Chelsea profit from Juventus’ success?
The Blues have a very complex deal with the Old Lady that could see them earn a profit from a signing.
Chelsea can earn a lot of money if the Turin club win serie A and Champions League due to clausees present in the loan deal for Cuadrado.
The 28 year old Colombian winger moved to Chelsea from Fiorentina for £23.3 million in 2015. But the move to England did not work out for him at all, as he struggled with life in England. So he went back to Italy on loan joining the Champions Juventus.
Juventus are now trying their best to keep the winger away from Antonio Conte’s clutches as they want him to stay in Italy.
Chelsea and Juventus had a three-year loan deal for Cuadrado where Chelsea would earn £4.5 million a season. The deal also had performance bonuses that will be activated when the Old Lady win any silverware.
Juventus are at the top of Serie A with 7 points clear and with 3 games to play, it is quite obvious that they already have one hand on the Scudetto. Juventus also defeated AS Monaco in the Champions League semifinals in both legs to secure a place in the final against Real Madrid.
So according to reports, it is calculated that Chelsea will earn bonus payments for Juve’s success in any of the mentioned competition. They will also stand a chance to earn over £24 million across 3 years, if all the clauses are activated.
Chelsea will be enjoying Juventus’s success because if Juve had a poor season during Cuadrado’s 3-year loan spell the sum would have dropped to only £13.5 million for the Colombia International. The Blues have no option to call back Cuadrado as per the deal agreement.
