Atletico comeback not enough to stop the Los Blancos from setting up the final showdown against Juventus in Cardiff.

Isco’s away goal shattered the hopes of Atleti fans as they were looking for a comeback.

Atletico Madrid were under pressure as they lost 3-0 to Real at the Bernabeu in the 1st leg of this semifinal fixture.

The result in the away fixture may haunt them later as they managed to win their last Champions League match at the Vicente Calderon. Atletico needed goals to get back in the tie and they needed quite a few of them, and they did exactly what the doctor ordered for them as they had a 2-0 lead within 16minutes and were threatening for another historic comeback.

But Zidane’s side came up with a reply which would make lives a lot more difficult for the Rojiblancos. Isco became the villain for the Atleti fans and the man of the moment for their city rivals. As Real Madrid will now look forward to face Juventus in Cardiff for the UEFA Champions League final.

Atletico were on the charge right from the beginning and it took an excellent low save from Navas at the near post to deny Koke-an early lead.

Oblak was also up to the task when his acrobatic one-hand stop denied a strong header from Casemiro. But Atletico were putting pressure on Real’s defence.

Atletico’s dominant play was rewarded when Saul headed past Navas from a Koke corner to give the Rojiblancos an early lead in the 13th minute.

Real’s defence was again put to test as Varane’s reckless challenge brought down Torres in the box and Griezmann stepped up and doubled the lead for the hosts with 16 minutes.

The intensity was beginning to rise, players were being fouled and things were looking scrappy as 5 players got booked in the 1st half. As Gabi and his counterpart, Ramos both got booked for dissent.

Gradually Real now looked far more in control as they kept possession without creating much. But in a little period of play Benzema had the ball at the left flank and his stunning footwork resulted in beating 3 players near him as he delivers a fine pass to Kroos. The German international was in some space but his shot was saved by Oblak but much to the delight of the Los Blancos, Isco was at the end of the rebound to hand the visitors a very crucial away goal.

After the away goal Real looked far more comfortable as Isco and Modric took charge of the proceedings. Isco’s fine piece of skill handed Real another chance early in the 2nd half, but Ronaldo’s first time shot was wayward.

Atletico did not show that intensity that they had in the 1st half but Navas was needed to stop Atletico from getting a lifeline, making a stunning low block to deny Carrasco’s shot and again turned up to send Gameiro’s rebound wide of goal.

Real thought they have scored again as Ronaldo sents Modric’s mishit ball back in the net but the talisman was judged offside. While Benzema’s header from Marcelo’s cross only resonated the side netting.

Atletico’s urgency in the dying minutes of the match was not enough as Real Madrid progressed to the final to face Juventus.

Real Madrid has now qualified for the UEFA final for an astonishing 15th time. They will take on Juventus at Cardiff on June 4th which is the most awaited fixture for the football lovers.
