The young Colombian has impressed in his first season at Europe and there is no surprise that he is on the Catalan side’s wishlist.

Spanish publication AS have suggested that Barcelona are eager to sign a central defender in the summer transfer window to add more depth to the team. So they have turned to Ajax in search of recruitment. Davinson Sanchez is very young and Barcelona are eyeing a move as a very long-term prospect.

Barcelona this season have been very inconsistent and that has been clear by their La Liga performances before climbing to the top of the tale this month. They were eliminated by Juventus at the quarterfinal stage but they managed to qualify for the final of Copa Del Rey

Barca’s season have been hot and cold because all the departments of Luis Enrique’s team have not performed at par. The Attack is the most vital part of Barca which has been working well and the midfielders were also at par throughout the season.

The main Problem lies with Barca’s defence, central defence in particular. With Mathieu threading in below par performances and Mascherano unsettled by injuries whereas, Umtiti has been impressive so far, The Frenchman has been one of the best defenders in Spain this season. But Pique also had not been in the best of his forms recently, thus the central defence becomes the area of major concern.

So Barca are tracking the progress of the 20-year-old Colombian defender, they tried signing him last summer but he rejected them in favour of Ajax.

The move from Atletico Nacional to Ajax Amsterdam was very fruitful for the Colombian. He has been a regular member for Peter Bosz’s side and with 5 goals and 2 assists, he was awarded Ajax’s Player of the season last week.

Sanchez can be perfect for Barca because of his adeptness to play possession based football that is employed in Camp Nou, as Ajax also playing with the same style. The young defender is good on the ball and can easily start the play from the back as he has an excellent pass success rate of 90%.

With Pique being inconsistent this season and Mathieu looking to leave Barca this summer and Mascherano is also on the wrong side of 30, the Colombian can be a long term solution for Barca at the back.

But reports suggest that Barca will have to pay 25 million in order to secure his signature. The price may rise due to interest from Chelsea and Bayern, who are very much impressed by the performances of the young defender.
