Juventus and Roma secure a win, Napoli is stopped by Sassuolo, the two Milanese teams can’t keep up with Atalanta’s pace and more on this week’s Serie A roundup.

Juventus 4-0 Genoa [Munoz o.g., Dybala, Mandzukic, Bonucci]

Genoa continues their struggle, 1 point in the last 6 games, as they are demolished by UEFA Champions League semifinalist Juventus. The Bianconeri with their 17th win out of 17 games at the Juventus Stadium, scoring 44 goals (2,59 per game) and conceding only 8 (0,47 per game). Juve went on to close the game pretty fast as they got two goals in two minutes (17’ and 18’), thanks to an own goal by Munoz and Dybala’s 9th league goal. Mandzukic scored the third in the 41’, while Bonucci ended the game in the second half. Later in the game, Juve hit the post three times with Marchisio, Higuain and Asamoah, but the four goals were more than enough to secure the win and move to 83 points, a +8 advantage on AS Roma with 5 games to play. Interestingly enough, Genoa was the only team who didn’t score in this matchday.

Pescara 1-4 AS Roma [Strootman, Nainggolan, Salah, Salah, Benali]

A big away win for AS Roma on Monday night as they take advantage of Napoli’s draw and gain the 2 points lost last week against Atalanta. The Giallorossi started the game well but weren’t able to score. However, just before halftime, AS Roma was able to score a quick double with Strootman and Nainggolan, who also hit the post before. With a double lead secured, Salah was able to finalize two counter attacks and score the third and forth goal for AS Roma. Just before the end of the game Pescara pulled one back with Benali, which made the final score 1-4. As El Shaarawy enjoyed a great game with 3 assist, AS Roma consolidates their second spot, with 4 points to defend in the last 5 games of the season.

Sassuolo 2-2 Napoli [Mertens, Berardi, Mazzitelli, Milik]

A very interesting and enjoyable lunch game between two teams who play a very good brand of football. Napoli played a better first half but was unable to score as the two teams went to halftime scoreless. Everything happened in the second half : Mertens scores his 22nd goal in the 52’, but Berardi answers back in the 59’. As the game progresses Napoli hits the post twice with Mertens and Insigne, but eventually it is Sassuolo who finds the lead with Mazzitelli in the 80’. However Napoli answered in the same manner as Sassuolo did before with Polish striker Arek Milik, who finds the equalizer just 3 minutes after coming into the game. Napoli would try to win the game but Sassuolo holds out for the final 2-2, which hurts Napoli’s chances to finish second.

Lazio 6-2 Palermo [Immobile, Immobile, Keita, Keita, Keita, Rispoli, Rispoli, Crecco]

8 goals in Rome between Lazio and Palermo, as The Biancocelesti score a massive six goals to defeat Palermo and continue their fight for the fourth place. It was never a close game as Lazio was already 5-0 up in the 26’. Rispoli scored twice in the beginning of the second half but it wasn’t enough, and eventually youngster Crecco closed the game in the final minutes. Big game for Keita with an hattrick and Immobile with two goals and an assist. Lazio is now one point above Atalanta, 6 above AC Milan and 8 above Inter Milan.

Atalanta 3-2 Bologna [Conti, Freuler, Destro, Di Francesco, Caldara]

Atalanta continues their impressive season with a tough but very important win against Bologna. The Bergamaschi started the game very well scoring two goals in the first 14’, but Destro pulled one back for Bologna as soon as the 16’. Bologna was also able to score the equalizer in the 61’ with Di Francesco but the game winner came in the 75’, when Caldara gave Atalanta a huge victory. Atalanta are now 5 points ahead of AC Milan and the Europa League qualification is getting closer and closer.

AC Milan 1-2 Empoli [Mchedlidze, Thiam, Lapadula]

Empoli upsets AC Milan at San Siro with a great performance and defends their 17th spot from Crotone, who also won away to Sampdoria. Empoli has now a 5 point advantage and an easier schedule. This huge and unexpected win came with two goals from the two striker : Mchedlidze in the first half and Thiam in the second half. Lapadula tried to rally AC Milan back in the game in the 72’, but The Rossoneri were unable to follow that goal and lost in front of their crowd.

Fiorentina 5-4 Inter [Vecino, Perisic, Icardi, Astori, Vecino, Babacar, Babacar, Icardi, Icardi]

On of the most craziest games of the season, as Fiorentina had one last chance to get back in the race for the Europa League. With this win they are just one point behind seventh spot Inter and three points behind the sixth spot which is the last good spot for qualifying to the european competition.
