Mohun Bagan vs Aizwal FC Match Preview

The Hero I-League defines the changing face of Indian football. Prior to the start of season, all had reckoned that the “Kolkata Derby” or matches involving Bengaluru FC would be the bigger matches.

They were the big matches but not quite the blockbuster which is set to kick-off with Aizwal FC hosting Mohun Bagan A.C. — a match which is now bigger than any final. Though the match between Aizwal FC and Bagan is either team’s penultimate one, both teams are unwilling to keep the job finished till the last round. Aizwal have a tougher gift as they play Shillong Lajong FC away in their last match compared to Bagan, who host Chennai FC in Kolkata.

Sanjay Sen fielded a second 11 in their AFC CUP match against Maziya, thus clearing his intentions – and that is to win the I-League. Kean Lewis is back and this will serve as a big boost to the Mariners. After a week long break, this team looks fresh and more hungry than ever. With players like Sony Norde, Katsumi Yusa, Darryl Duffy, Jeje Lalpekhlua and Balwant Singh, Bagan possesses a lethal strike-force.

Aizwal’s biggest strength is their team game. Khalid Jamil has moulded the team into a well-oiled cohesive unit. The players are speedy giving them a cutting edge. They have been brilliant at home this season, winning seven of their eight games so far and drawn one. Moreover, they have conceded just 3 goals in home games.
