Pochettino wants Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa to add more depth to his side
Spurs are in for Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to add more quality to his young squad.
Brazilian Winger Douglas Costa de Souza signed for Bayern Munich in 2015 from Shakhtar Donetsk for £21m, who became quite a Star in Munich under ex. Bayern boss Pep Guardiola but has become quite a bench warmer under Carlo Ancelotti, Costa just started 17 games combined this Season.
That’s why Spurs Boss Mauricio Pochettino is very keen to add greater quality to the depth of Tottenham this summer to make sure Tottenham are able to compete in both the English Premier League and the Champions League.
Douglas Costa has started a combined 17 matches in the Bundesliga and Champions League this Season for Bayern & according to reports, Bayern may put a price tag of £25-30million on him.
All has not been well for Costa in Bavaria when he revealed in February that he had wanted more regular playing time and that he had received contact from top European clubs.
`It depends on a few factors,’ Costa said. ‘The main factor being minutes played. I cannot comment on names, but there are contacts with teams from England, Spain and also France. But I respect Bayern. I am still under contract until 2020’.
“I think England is one of the biggest leagues in the world – fantastic! The language is easier in Spain but England also has great players. For me, it is the best league in the world.’
In response to this statement, Bayern club president Uli Hoeness claimed Costa’s actions were `a desperate attempt to get a higher salary’
Hoeness said: `That doesn’t work with us. He can try 10 more times. He is certainly not a hardship case’. As things stand Costa is very much unsettled at Bayern Munich.
