Athletic Bilbao 5-1 Las Palmas

Athletic Bilbao thrashed Las Palmas, taking them to the 6th place in the league table. The hosts put a dominant performance as Iker Muniain and Aritz Aduriz each scored a brace and Mikel San José netted one to seal the victory. Pedro Bigas’s goal proved to be only a consolation for the visitors as they sit 13th in the table.

Deportivo La Coruña 2-0 Málaga

Deportivo La Coruña managed a 2-0 victory over Málaga with Josélu and Pedro Mosquera netting in for the home side. Deportivo are 16th in the La Liga table while Málaga are just one place above them following this result.

Sporting Gijón 2-3 Real Madrid

Real Madrid defeated Sporting Gijón in what was a dramatic victory for the Los Blancos. The home side opened the scoring through Duje Čop who volleyed following a scooped pass from Mikel Vesga. Vesga scored in the second half but his effort was cancelled out by Álvaro Morata’s header. Just as when a draw seemed inevitable, Isco settled the tie by scoring from the edge of the penalty area. With this victory, Real Madrid stays at the top of the table while Sporting are third from the bottom, five points adrift of safety.

Atlético Madrid 3-0 Osasuna

Bottom-placed Osasuna were beaten 0-3 at the Vicente Calderón by Atlético Madrid who remains 3rd in the league table. Yannick Carrasco’s brace and Filipe Luís’s strike earned three points for the hosts who are ten points adrift of the top.

FC Barcelona 3-2 Real Sociedad

FC Barcelona hosted Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou and managed a hard fought win over the visitors. Lionel Messi registered an impressive brace before Samuel Umtiti pushed one back in his own net. Paco Alcácer restored the two-goal lead from an assist from Messi. Xabi Prieto pulled one back again in the stoppage time of the first half. The second half produced no further goals, as the match ended 3-2 in the favour of the Catalans. The win sees Barcelona retain their 2nd spot in the table while Real Sociedad are 7th in the league and will be competing for a place in Europe next season.

Leganés 0-1 Espanyol

Léo Baptistão scored a stoppage-time goal to secure a 1-0 win for Espanyol against relegation threatened Leganés. The defeat leaves Leganés one spot above the drop zone while Espanyol moves to 9th position.

Valencia 0-0 Sevilla

Sevilla were held to a goalless draw by Valencia. The Los Che, who have 40 points from 32 games, now sit in the 12th place in the league. Sevilla, on the other hand, stays at 4 and are almost certain to finish in Champions League spot.

Real Betis 2-0 Eibar

Real Betis were handed a 2-0 win over Eibar courtesy of the goals from Jonas Martin and Dani Ceballos. The defeat puts Eibar in the 8th place whereas Real Betis are 14th in the table.

Granada 0-3 Celta Vigo

Tony Adams suffered his first loss as Granada manager, as Jozabed and Claudio Beauvue netted in to register a 3-0 victory over Celta Vigo. Celta remains in the 10th position whereas Granada are second from the bottom.

Alavés 2-1 Villarreal

Villarreal suffered a blow to their Champions League aspirations with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Alavés. Ibai Gómez scored from outside the box with an excellent right-footed volley to open the scoring. Rodrigo Ely extended the lead for the home side by heading the ball into the back of the net just before the break. Cédric Bakambu scored for the Yellow submarines but his strike wasn’t enough to avoid the defeat. Alavés are 11th in the league following this victory.
