Real Madrid vs Bayern Munchen second leg Match Preview
Real Madrid are up against Bayern München in the second leg of Champions League quarter-final, which promises to be a fascinating contest between the two European heavyweights. Real Madrid go into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu with a 2-1 advantage from Allianz Arena courtesy of a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo. The Germans, therefore have their hands full and will have a mountain to climb to overturn the home deficit if they fancy their chances to progress to the final four.
Gareth Bale will be missing the game due to calf muscle injury that saw him being substituted in the first leg. Pepe and Raphaël Varane will not be featuring either. Isco’s performance in the weekend against Sporting Gijón is expected to earn him a place in the starting line-up. “Just like the others, Isco is ready to play and that is important,” Zinedine Zidane said at his pre-match press conference. “Our home support is going to be important. We always need them and they are always there. With them, we have an extra player,” he insisted. Zidane’s men have scored 59 goals at the Bernabéu from 22 matches across all competitions this season, averaging 2.7 goals per game. The Los Blancos have lost only one game at their home this season and have maintained an impressive home record.
Bayern München will be optimistic as Robert Lewandowski returns from the shoulder injury and is presumed to feature in the starting XI. There are very few strikers in world football who are as lethal as the Bayern forward and his likely return makes a comeback scenario eminently possible. The Polish international has amassed 15 goals in his last 11 club games and Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping that the striker produces some stunning performance on the Tuesday night. “It’ll be a great game,” predicted Ancelotti, “We believe in ourselves and we’ll give it everything.” Defenders Jérôme Boateng and Mats Hummels will undergo fitness tests and are doubtful to start the game. Javi Martínez will be suspended due to the red card that he picked up in the first leg.
