AS Roma 1-1 Atalanta Match Report
The Giallorossi held to a stubborn draw at the Stadio Olimpico. AS Roma 1-1 Atalanta.
AS Roma’s already minutely faint chances of winning the Title suffered a major blow today as they were held to a stubborn draw by Atalanta.
Before the match, the Giallorossi were aiming to pile up further pressure up on the leaders Juve with a fifth successive league victory but fell behind via a powerful Jasmin Kurtic volley in the 22nd minute. Before that too, as early in the second minute, Atalanta threatened to take the lead as a goal bound shot hit Rudiger and prevented a sure goal.
The best Roma could attempt in the first half was a weak De Rossi header which went straight to Gollini. But they upped the tempo after the break and it took just five minutes for Dzeko to conjure up an equaliser. Mario Rui’s threatening cross to the far post was proficiently nodded down by Salah for Dzeko who stabbed it past Gollini.
The rest of the game was simple frustration for Roma who kept on pushing for a goal, but were left fortuneless. De Rossi’s overhead spectacular attempt was just inches wide and Nainngollan also struck the underside of the crossbar from him ferocious right foot.
All said and done, a frustrating night culminated for Roma and they had to settle for a point and their minute hopes of a Scudetto effectively ended as they fall 8 point behind leaders Juve with just 6 games remaining.
