FC Barcelona vs Real Sociedad Match Preview
Having lost their previous La Liga match against Malaga, it’s vital for FC BARCELONA to avoid dropping points when they take on Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou. FC Barcelona also lost their UCL Quarterfinal match against Juventus, though they played well in that match.
FC Barcelona return to La Liga action tonight hoping to halt a two match losing streak and make strong amendments to Juventus that it won’t be that easy to survive in Camp Nou.
FC Barcelona lie second from top, with 69 points from 31 matches. The San Sebastian natives held the Blaugrana to a draw when the two sides met earlier this season and a repeat of that result would surely see Barcelona’s title hopes end a week ahead of El Clasico. However, FC Barcelona’sform at the Camp Nou has been great and despite of all their troubles, they are still expected to pick up a vital win.
Real Sociedad are out of the title race and are sitting on the 6th position, with 52 points from 31 games.
Sociedad have won eight of their 15 away games so far this season—only two fewer than Barcelona and Real Madrid—and that will give them a mental boost while stepping on the Camp Nou turf.
Barcelona’s midweek defeat to Juventus have jolted the hopes of a treble of all the Cules. But FC Barcelona can take some positives with them while taking on Real Sociedad tonight. They weren’t that bad against Juventus and if lady luck would have smiled on them then they could have easily scored one or two goals against them. But FC Barcelona needs to move over from this defeat. They needs to resurrect their defensive tactics and they need to focus on their midfield too.
Javier Mascherano is expected to miss out with a calf injury. If so, he will join Aleix Vidal, Rafinha Alcantara, Neymar and Arda Turan in watching from the stands. The Turkish midfielder has returned to training this week, but he is yet to receive the medical green light to make a competitive return.
Neymar, meanwhile will serve his 3 match suspension, thus giving more headaches to Lucho.
Eusebio will be without the services of striker Juanmi, who misses out through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon.
