Villarreal 3-1 Athletic Club



Villarreal strengthened their grip on the 5th place following a 3-1 victory at home over Athletic Club. Víctor Ruiz, Cédric Bakambu and Adrián López were on the scoresheet for the yellow submarines while Aymeric Laporte found the net for Athletic. The defeat leaves the Basque side in the 7th place in the league table.

Espanyol 1-0 Alavés



Espanyol managed a 1-0 victory over visitors Alavés with Pablo Piatti scoring the only goal of the game. Espanyol are now 9th in the league just 4 points below the top 6 while Alavés stay at 11th position after a third consecutive defeat.

Real Madrid 1-1 Atlético Madrid



Real Madrid’s title quest was shaken as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Atlético Madrid at the Bernabéu. Pepe’s header looked just enough to secure the victory for the Los Blancos before Antoine Griezmann’s late equalizer earned a vital point for the Colchoneros from the Madrid derby. Nonetheless, Real Madrid still sit at the top with 3 points ahead of 2nd placed Barcelona with a game in hand. Atlético are in the 3rd spot and are almost certain to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Sevilla 4-2 Deportivo La Coruña



Sevilla were without a win in their last six matches but emerged 4-2 winners against Deportivo La Coruña. Stevan Jovetic, Pablo Sarabia, Joaquín Correa and Wissam Ben Yedder got into the scoresheet for Sevilla while Gaël Kakuta scored a brace for Deportivo. With this victory, Sevilla stay in the 4th place, 1 point short of Atlético Madrid while Deportivo are in 16th position in the table.

Málaga 2-0 FC Barcelona



FC Barcelona, who were visiting Málaga, had an oppurtunity to advantage of Real Madrid’s draw. However, the Catalan giants were stunned by a 2-0 defeat as Sandro Ramírez and Jony slotted home for Málaga while Neymar was red-carded. The defeat dents the title hopes for Barcelona who will be facing Real Sociedad next weekend without the Brazillian.

Granada 1-3 Valencia



Granada suffered a 1-3 loss against the visitors Valencia. A brace from Simone Zaza and one from Santi Mina were enough to settle the tie in favour of the visiting side. Ezequiel Ponce’s goal proved to be a mere consolation for the home team as their relegation fight become steeper.

Celta Vigo 0-2 Eibar



A goal each from Kike García and Pedro León saw Eibar beating the home side Celta Vigo who are currently in the 10th place. Eibar are 6th in the table and will be aspiring to play in the Europa League next season.

Osasuna 2-1 Leganés



Osasuna defeated Leganés by 2-1, courtesy of a brace from Sergio León. However, in spite of the victory, Osasuna stay at the bottom of the league table and are almost certain to be relegated when the season finishes.

Las Palmas 4-1 Real Betis

Las Palmas enjoyed a 4-1 win at home over Real Betis. Vicente Gómez had put the home side in front just before the half time and second half goals from Kevin-Prince Boateng, Jonathan Viera and Jesé Rodríguez ensured the 3 points while Rafa Navarro’s late strike only served as consolation for the visitors.
