No Messi, No win for Argentina, World Cup qualifying at stake
Argentina failed to survive against Bolivia in absence of Messi as team slipped to 5th spot.
Absence of star man Lionel Messi is seemed to be like a chronic nightmare to Argentina and once again the players let another team prove it. In the World Cup qualifying match against Bolivia the Argentinian side was very much frustrating and it was quite clear that Messi’s 4 match ban is one of the most prolific and active reason behind their loss.
After the loss against Bolivia, Argentina slipped to the 5th spot, respectively Chile and Columbia registered win and Argentina have tough days ahead in qualifying rounds.
Messi is banned for 4 games after insulting assistant referee after his side’s win over Chile in WC qualifying games. The match was won by Argentina thanks to a Messi penalty, so literally last goal was also scored by him before the suspension. The Barcelona forward was also fined 10,000 Swiss francs after approaching the official at the end of the win in Buenos Aires.
Argentina will be without their captain for three of their final four qualifiers and if Tuesday’s performance is any guide he will be sorely missed. His four games ban for swearing at a linesman in the game against Chile last Thursday was hursh, although he didn’t touch the official but the decision is made up and Argentina national team and board can’t make any process to get him for the matches.
It was truly a nightmare for national side where Messi was not to provide any genuine help like assists or scoring. Arce’s great header from Pablo Escobar’s long range cross opened the scorebook for Bolivia and after the break Bolivia doubled the lead as Jorge Flores cut the ball back and picked out Martins, who tapped home from the edge of the six-yard box. Bauza’s attempted recovery went to vein as Aguero, who came later in the match was just out of his state and couldn’t make chances. There was no way back for Argentina from there, and the burning question is whether there is a way back for them in the campaign.
Argentina side is now a days like totally based on the performance of Lionel Messi and for a long time Messi has been doing the job of savior of his side. The three main National tournament where he played is the example, two Copa America and a very much worthy World Cup(Brazil 2014), in each of these three tournament Messi started maximum games for his teams and result was in front of us. Reaching the finals respectively, although luck didn’t favour the Barca star as none of those three trophies were won by his side.
The stats also speaks it for present too, Messi has started and played six matches in Argentina’s WC qualification and five of them was success for his side and in the eight games he missed, only one win has been accumulated by Argentina following four draws and three defeats.
Argentina were already without suspended regulars Javier Mascherano, Lucas Biglia and Gonzalo Higuaín in La Paz before Messi’s suspension and they defended poorly throughout the game. The upcoming games without their ongoing legend are very crucial at this stage and they can’t afford any mistakes, however the absence of Messi will still haunt the side if they can’t improve from their situation.
The omission of Argentina from main event of 2018 World cup Russia will be obviously a news to hear as Messi will probably miss a competeton which could be his last. So not only the national side, it’s an issue for the attacker also. The rest is on Bauza and co.
