Arsenal to move for Kasper Schmeichel
Arsenal are considering a summer move for Kasper Schmeichel as per reports
Kasper Schmeichel has been in fine form between the sticks for Leicester City for a long time. He was a pivotal figure behind Leicester’s title triumph last season and he continues his fine display in this season too despite Leicester being on the wrong half of the league table.
Thanks to Kasper’s amazing display over the two legs against Sevilla which includes a penalty save from N’Zonzi, the Foxes reached the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League.
The Daily Mirror reports that the Gunners are highly in contention to make a bid for the-30-year-old Danish number one who has recently been voted Danish footballer of the year for the second consecutive year courtesy to his scintillating form.
Arsenal want Kasper to compete with Petr Cech for starting eleven spot and replace Ospina who is almost certain to leave Emirates in search of regular first team action. Although Arsene Wenger’s future remains in doubt at Arsenal, he has already started his planning for the next season and Schmeichel is high on that list.
Everton are also looking for a new number one as their current goalie Joel Robles will be out of contract next summer and the Toffees are reluctant to offer him a contract extension considering his inconsistent form
While first team action is almost certain for Schmeichel at Everton, the prospect of playing in Champions League, if Arsenal qualify, would be too much tempting a chance to resist for him. Schmeichel has a £15m price tag and his recent displays surely have added some extra pounds to that.
Schmeichel has appeared in over 200 league matches for Leicester City since moving to the King Power Stadium from Leeds United 6 years ago.
