Ederson Moraes closing on to Man City deal
Ederson Moraes to Man City seems to be a done deal.
It’s looking like Manchester City have already got their first transfer success even before the ongoing season ends.
Manchester City have been linked with Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson Moraes over the last couple of transfer windows and now they might have got their man. Pep Guardiola brought Claudio Bravo last summer from Barcelona but his dismal form has forced Pep to dip into the transfer market for a new number 1. Even Willy Caballero isn’t becoming any younger.
Portuguese news site ‘The Record’ reports that Man City and Benfica have already reached a “gentleman’s agreement” over the proposed transfer of Ederson. Ederson has already dropped a hint regarding his future when he started following official Man City account on Instagram.
Man City had a reported £19m bid rejected last summer for Moraes. Although he has a £50m buyout clause in his contract, City hierarchy believes a bid of around £30m is enough to bring the Brazilian to Etihad Stadium from Estadio da Luz.
Portuguese sports newspaper ‘A Bola’ has gone one step further to claim that Pep Guardiola personally called Ederson to convince him to join Manchester City.
Pep is a big fan of Ederson’s physicality, shot-stopping capability, passing accuracy and his ability to build from the back.
Ederson joined Benfica from Rio Ave in 2015 and since then showed a string of good performances in both Primeira Liga and Champions League.
Ederson was called up to the national squad for Copa America Centenario but was later cut from the final squad due to injury. He is in the Brazilian team which will face Uruguay and Paraguay this month in World Cup 2018 qualifiers and expected to make his debut with the national side.
