Bengaluru FC adds 3 more experienced Indian players to the squad
I-League champions Bengaluru FC continued their pre-season shopping by adding left-back Lalhmangaihsanga ‘Sena’ Ralte, winger Mandar Rao Dessai and goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya to the club ahead of a new season to defend their title.
Sena Ralte (Mumbai City FC) Mandar Rao Dessai (FC Goa) and Arindam Bhattacharya (FC Pune City) joined Bengaluru side on a season long loan deal.
Their fifth acquisition for the upcoming league season in a span of two week. Earlier The Blues signed midfielders Harmanjot Khabra and Lenny Rodrigues.
“We will be competing in two tournaments at the same time and it’s going to take squad depth if we are to do well. Sena is coming off a good tournament with Mumbai City FC, Mandar is a very talented youngster who has made rapid strides and Arindam brings with him the kind of experience that will keep Amrinder and Ralte on their toes at all times.
These are good additions to our squad and I hope they get up to speed with our systems given there’s very little time before the League begins,” said Blues coach Albert Roca.
Sena will add much needed quality and competition to the squad, the 28 year old defender will compete with Lalchhuanmawia, Keegan Pereira and Nishu Kumar for the left back spot. Arindam (26), The former Churchill and Bharath Fc keeper will compete with Blues faithful Amrinder .
The experienced keeper already have a winners medal in his showcase. The Former Churchill shotstopper had offers from some other clubs but decided to join Bengaluru side.
“I wanted to be part of a team that’s always competing for trophies and I wouldn’t see why anyone would look beyond Bengaluru FC. The club is doing so many things right and it’s an atmosphere I wanted to be part of. Also, it gives me a chance to test myself given Amrinder and Ralte are fine ’keepers.
I’ll know at the end of the season whether this move was the right one or not.” Mandar, a pacy winger with an eye for goal felt that he would excel in the Blues’ style of play.
“Bengaluru FC is the right club for any footballer and I’m surrounded by some great players here. I’m looking forward to pulling on the Blue shirt and linking up with them,” the 24-year-old said.
All three players participated in Tuesday’s training session as the Blues continued their preparations for the start of the season. Bengaluru FC will begin the defence of their 2015-16 I-League title with a home fixture against Shillong Lajong at the Kanteerava Stadium on the 7th of January, 2017, going by the I-League fixtures released by the All India Football Federation, on Tuesday. Albert Roca’s side then host Chennai City FC (January 14) and Mumbai FC (January 18).
