They made a huge difference said Coppell
Steve Coppell said that the return of Rino Anto and CK Vineeth made a huge difference in the team as Kerala Blasters beat Chennaiyin FC by 3-1.
It was a dream comeback for the Blasters as they were playing really bad during the first half and came back at the second half with a great performance to beat Chennaiyin.
“I really don’t know why we keep doing that. We were very poor in the first half”-Coppell said.
‘They surprised us with the shape they were playing. We knew the personnel when the teams changed over but we did not who was playing where from the team sheets. Playing Mendy as a left winger was a huge surprise for us,” he said.
”We got a lot tighter in the second half. We eliminated the gaps. We have to thank the crowd because they created a brilliant atmosphere,” he mentioned.
”In the first couple of games, playing in front of such a crowd created pressure for the players. Now they are enjoying it. The momentum we gained with the goal and the crowd, made for a special night in Kerala.”
”We worked very hard and the return of the Bengaluru players made a huge difference. Rino and Vineeth being there gave us a huge boost psychologically. It was like going into the transfer market and signing two players. It gave us solidity and flexibility.”
“I have been speaking to Antonio ever since the season started and he has always wanted to play down the middle. He had the opportunity tonight and he was under pressure”-Coppell said.
”It’s more constant and not that reactive to situations. I’d love for the stadium to be close to the pitch like in Europe. 50,000 people in such a situation would be just phenomenal. It would take the lid off anything. But even with that distance, the noise levels were huge”-said Coppell.
