Paul Pogba could have joined Real Madrid
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed he was in talks to sign Paul Pogba before Manchester United pounced.
The Frenchman left Juventus for a move back to Old Trafford in a world-record £89million fee in August. But it’s believed Real were favourites to land Pogba ahead of United before pulling out due to a lack of funds.
Boss Zinedine Zidane has already revealed his club held talks with the talismanic midfielder.
And now Perez has admitted he held meetings with agent Mino Raiola before deciding the move wasn’t right for Real.
The president claims he met Raiola in order to analyse a deal but thought it was prudent to pull out due to the financial costs.
The report adds Perez also expressed his full confidence in Zidane after Real drew in four consecutive games earlier this season.
Despite the stalemates, Real are yet to taste defeat in any competition and sit joint-top of La Liga alongside fierce rivals Atletico – two points ahead of Barcelona.
