Italy vs Spain 1-1
The goals were scored by Machín Pérez for Spain and De Rossi for Italy.
Spain were out to avenge their defeat by the Azzurri in the last 16 of Euro 2016 and quickly took control of the match.
But they could not get a revenge as Rossi scored the equalizer for Italy at dying moments of the game.
Spain had 72.4% of possession in the first half but failed to score.
Spain started the second half confidently and Machín Pérez scored a goal at the 55’minute of the game and took Spain to one goal advantage.
His right footed shot from the left side of the box find the centre of the goal. Assisted by Sergio Busquets.
The Spain forward Diego Costa was lucky not to be sent off after the break. Having already been booked in the first half, he hoofed away the ball in disgust after being flagged offside but escaped a booking and was immediately substituted.
Italy rarely threatened but De Rossi equalised at 82’minute from a penalty to extend his country’s unbeaten run in qualifiers to 52 games.
